PICT Initiatives

PICT has very limited financial and physical resources. It achieves success by working with local government and central government agencies that have the means to ensure that priorities from the Inlet Action Plan are identified and included in their planning and project implementing processes.

Over the last four years, a number of submissions have been made to central government agencies and local governments with responsibility for maintaining the health of the Inlet. As well, a science workshop covering aspects of the Inlet has been very successfully held, and a pamphlet " Planting with a Purpose" published to help reduce contamination of the inlet by silting, excess nutrients and heavy metals from road runoff.

Special attention has been given to roading and supporting the Transmission Gully option in the debate on Wellington's 'Western Corridor'.

For more detail on recent initiatives, see the 2005-06 PICT Annual Report

and Minutes of recent meetings.
